Flu Season

November 04, 2015

Hello All,

Flu season is here! What can we do to protect ourselves and others around us? Here is good advice our Director of Nursing gives to our Certified Home Health Aides. But, in truth, it’s good advice for everyone!

•  It is not too late to get vaccinated.

•  Please, stay home if you have symptoms of the flu. Infecting others is not as “innocent” as you think. The flu, if poorly treated, might lead to complications such as: bacterial pneumonia, dehydration, ear and sinus infections (especially in children).  The flu can worsen long-term medical conditions, like congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes. In serious cases the flu might lead to muscle inflammation (myositis), problems with central nervous system, heart problems (such as heart attacks), inflammation of the organ (myocarditis), and inflammation of the sac around it (pericarditis).

•  With mild symptoms you need rest, hydration and symptomatic treatment (for cough, runny nose, sore throat, etc.). For more severe symptoms, contact your physician for treatment advice.

•  Please, do not come to work when you have flu. It is highly contagious, and every year we have same domino effect: coworkers getting sick one after another.

•  If your brief presence in the office is absolutely necessary, please wear mask all the time you are in the office. Masks are available in all offices, at nursing stations.

Thank you and stay healthy!
